A celebration of community with an annual scholarship awarded.

Lakeview Day Started informally over 30 years ago when a group of friends, community members and former Malvern High School classmates began to meet in Lakeview Park for a picnic/ barbecue, to enjoy each other’s company, and keep the extended family bonds enlivened and strong.  The event has continually met for over 30 years on the first Saturday of August and sometimes the Sunday of that weekend depending on the Saturday weather.

Over the years we have and give special thanks to Darnell Heard, Gus Williams (now deceased), Arthur Williams, Cathi Parker, Marie Jones, Donald Wallace, Bradley Hinton, Rene Flagg, James Macklin,  Desmond Lynch  and others for their continued support and enthusiasm.  In 2011 and 2012 we began a scholarship fund to help spread and sustain the strength and future of Lakeview Day. Funds were initially raised from the event participants  and go to worthy candidates based on scholarship, connection to the event, and completion of the application process. Lakeview Day looks to grow this scholarship and look to the future youth to sustain the community,  family, and extended family tradition began with and for them.    In 2012, Darnell of the original members, announced the goal of raising $10,000, or more,  for the Lakeview Day Scholarship Fund. Since that time, there have been two annual scholarships given to worthy candidates in 2013 and 2014 respectively, with this 2015 being the third scholarship given. To this end, community fundraising activities have been in engaged in gathering support from local businesses, business owners, and event sponsors, as well the traditional passing of the hat, at Lakeview Day.
